Taylor Hicks, Santa, movies and more …

In the Logan Martin Lake area, a number of events give opportunity to celebrate the joy of this Christmas season. One even includes a free concert by “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks.

One Christmas season event is Lights in the Park. Until 9 each evening Dec. 1-31, drive through Lakeside Park in Pell City to see Christmas lights and decorations.

Another is the annual tree-lighting ceremony outside St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Santa will be available for photos with children.

The following are some other events in the area:


— Lincoln High School FBLA and Lincoln Parks and Recreation are hosting Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 2 at Lincoln City Center. Tickets are $10 for one adult and one child and $5 for adult breakfast only. Children’s tickets also include a visit with Santa, a gift and a Christmas craft project. Proceeds from the event go to the March of Dimes. Tickets are available at Lincoln High School, from FBLA members or Susan Evans (256-525-9552).

– Through Dec. 18, children may mail letters to Santa via the Santa Mailbox at Randolph Park (722 Magnolia St.).


— Dinner with Santa, for children ages 5-11, is 5-8 p.m. Dec. 8 at Spring Street Recreation Center. Cost is $8 per child. Reservations may be made at Spring Street Recreation Center (256-362-0514) until Dec. 6.

— Christmas on the Square is Dec. 15-17 in Talladega. On Dec. 15 after Talladega’s Christmas parade and tree-lighting ceremony, events until 9 p.m. include visiting with Santa, enjoying music and watching a movie at the Ritz Theatre. On Dec. 16, activities are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include ice-skating, Thomas the Train rides, movies at the Ritz, vendor sales, a free concert by Taylor Hicks, and more. Then, from noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 17 is more ice-skating, movies, music and vendor sales. For a complete schedule, see christmasintalladega.com.
